Indian head pommel infantry officer sword. Sometimes referred to as the Indian Princess. This model sword was used by American infantry officer's in the regular army until around 1830 but could be found with militia officer's until the start of the Civil War. This very rare sword is being offered at a low price as it has some condition problems (See photographs). The pearl grips have a crack on one side and general wear throughout. All the wire is present on the wrap, but is a bit loose on both top and bottom. The crossguard has significant wobble as an internal washer appears to have degraded out. All of the handle fittings are heavily patinated. The single edged fullered blade has spots of darkening throughout. There is humble etching of floral designs and patriotic motif on both sides consistant with the timeframe this sword is from. Under one langet is the maker name of W.H.H.&S. of which I am not familiar. A very rare sword offered at a bargain price. |
