This is one of those items that you have to like more the more you look at it. It is a silk hinomaru flag to which was added a gold fringe and a purple silk border. The quality is evident in that even the purple border has a pattern of hummingbirds over water that was too subtle to catch on a photograph. The dedication states that it was a gift from Nakao Kazuo to Ushijima Juzo with a phrase basically stating "Good luck in long fighting". It is in excellent shape throughout except for a few small holes on the dedication area, the worst of which is photographed. Because this part of the flag is a seperate piece added over the flag this damage is not very noticable at all. The last photo is one corner folded over to show how it is put together. 42" by 31" including the border and fringe. Really a neat flag! |
