When local boys or men were going off to war their neighborhoods would have a "going off to war" party. This type of banner would be used as decoration at such events. This silk example is 150x40cm. There is a piece of wood or bamboo sewn into the top. The fancy fringe at the bottom is complete and in very good shape. Nice rendition of a rising sun at the top. The colors are strong but in a few spots there is evidence that it got wet as there is some small areas of color run; Not too disfiguring. Very interesting backdrop for a WWII Japanese display.
